I would class my oil painting style as representational. I tend to focus on landscapes, however, I also enjoy painting animals, people and still life subjects.
I do not produce paintings about one specific subject or another, I work from photographs of my own or from other photographers. I work in oil paints using brush and palette knife. Additionally, I have recently begun exploring coloured pencil.
I am not trying to express my ideas, instead I paint to offer the viewer an opportunity to enjoy the scene or subject as I did and take their own experience and pleasure from it. I think of my paintings as an inventory of places, photographs, objects and life that I have enjoyed and/or wish to share. Whatever a painting says to the viewer - it is the right message, each person takes something a little different from the same painting and that is what I want.
I have always loved Impressionist paintings, particularly the Group of Seven including Tom Thomson and some 19th Century Artists like Alfred Sisley. I also enjoy the work of modern day impressionists such as Vladimir Horik and Erin Hanson. At the same time I am captivated by photo-realism demonstrated by many artists such as Edward Spera and Janie Gildow.
I also work on commission, see some of my work in the 'Commissioned' Gallery. If you wish to find out more about having a painting created, or want to buy a painting available in my portfolios, please reach me through my Contact page.
